Maison du Peuple full scale experience on its original site

Collaborating institution & subvention: Urban.brussels,
Other subvestions: Musée Horta, Faculty of Architecture La Cambre Horta
Partner: Magic Monkey
Budget: 35.000 €

As part of the Bright Brussels 2023 festival, the circular section of the Maison du Peuple’s façade by Victor Horta was projected onto the building that replaced it after its destruction in 1965. A 3D animation depicts the genesis of the project, its construction, its vibrant years through an animated façade as it might have appeared to passersby in the early 20th century, and its inevitable end. The current building’s dimensions align with Horta’s original design for the street-facing portion. Thus, the projection could be executed at full scale, perfectly fitting the contours of the façade. For a few evenings, this Art Nouveau masterpiece reclaimed its place on Rue Joseph Stevens, where it once stood.
