Workshop (fig.)

Author(s): Myriem Saoud, Arnaud Naômé, Damiaan Van Dun

+ Talks by Jonathan Muecke, Robert Crabtree (Treero), Rafal Zajco

The one week workshop (Fig.) proposes to explore three foundations of architectural design: representation, element, and material through the creation of a pavilion. The pavilion scale, along with its open definition, allows for free experimentation in architectural design and lends itself to individual production within a short timeframe. Students were randomly assigned a type of representation, an element, and a material to experiment with for the design of their pavilions. Their weekly production initially focused on experimenting with the assigned materials. Subsequently, the iterative design and construction process of the pavilions were enriched by three lectures related to the workshops' topics . The final students' output reflects a range of random combinations related to representation, element, and material, showcasing specific and unique constraints for each project.
